Every year, World Clean-Up Day unites millions of volunteers, governments, and organizations across more than 190 countries to tackle one of the planet’s most pressing challenges—mismanaged waste. According to the World Bank, the world generates over 2.24 billion tons of solid waste annually, with at least 33% not managed in an environmentally safe manner.
In Ekiti State, improper waste disposal in markets, streets, and drainages contributes to flooding, pollution, and health risks. Reports by the Ekiti State Waste Management Authority (EKSWAMA) show that blocked drainages remain one of the leading causes of urban flooding during the rainy season in Ado-Ekiti. Beyond environmental hazards, mismanaged waste also reduces the beauty, livability, and economic potential of our communities.
Against this backdrop, On Saturday, 20th September 2025, TGED Foundation, in collaboration with EKSWAMA, NESREA, and other partners, is joining the global call to action through the Ado-Ekiti World Clean-Up Day 2025 event
The event will kick off at Fajuyi Pavilion by 7:00 AM, bringing together passionate volunteers, youth groups, fashion designers, government agencies, and civil society organizations all united by one goal: to create a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment.
Through this initiative, we will:
Together, we believe that collective action can turn awareness into meaningful change.
