TOURISM AND ECOTOURISM IN EKITI STATE: ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECTS.

Continuous engagement and collaboration with government and relevant stakeholders is key to mitigating the multifaceted effects of environmental challenges.

Tourism and environment are very connected. A good, healthy and properly organized environment is integral to tourism.  Natural resources, biodiversity, and environmental conservation are sources of tourist attraction.

Given our unwavering and increasing commitment to continuous environmental development for growth and sustainability, the TGED Foundation team paid an advocacy visit to Mr. Wale Ojo-Lanre, the Director-General of Bureau of Tourism Development, Ekiti State to discuss strategies for Eco-Tourism promotion in Ekiti State. We discussed the state of waste management in Ekiti State and how important waste management is, not only to tourism but also to the overall development of the state. Of course, a dirty environment does not encourage tourist attractions.

We elaborated on the urgent need for continuous public awareness and sensitization on waste disposal in the State, concluding that the most effective strategy for achieving this is through partnerships and collaboration with all relevant stakeholders and organizations both in the public and private sector.

The Director-General expressed his enthusiasm and commitment to promoting Eco-Tourism in Ekiti State while highlighting ongoing efforts to this effect.

From our discussion, it was discovered that the Ise-Ekiti forest is home to over 660 different species of butterflies. Also, chimpanzees are also found in this forest. Such biodiversity!
