As the world continues to face different threats of climate change, there is a need to educate people, especially young people on the negative impacts of climate change and ways on how to combat the climate change crisis. Education on climate change is an important factor in the fight against climate change. Climate change education can help students develop a strong personal connection to climate solutions, as well as a sense of personal agency and empowerment, it can have a consequential impact on studentsβ daily behaviors and decision making that reduces their overall lifetime carbon footprint. Imagine if 100 percent of students in the world received such an education.
Itβs in view of this that TGED Foundation visited All Souls Anglican Grammar School Ado-Ekiti
for her Eco Savers School Project (ESSP) on climate change on the 19th of May, 2022. The primary aim of the program was to encourage young people to change their attitudes and behavior and also help them make informed decisions and motivate them to take action.
Among the highlights of the program was a presentation on climate change, by the team lead of TGED Foundation Oluwaseyi Ebenezer and this was followed by a practical session on upcycling of waste materials (nylon bags, disposable rubber spoons, water bottle can) into a beautiful table flower which was later presented to the principal of the school, in the person of Mr Adegoke. In his remark, the principal thanked the TGED team for picking their school for such an educative program.
To ensure a more comfortable and healthy planet, we must all come together and have a rethink on how we treat our environment. Climate change and climate change education are global challenges that must be addressed through a combination of local learning and action. For us, quality climate change education will help to explore and spread the knowledge about climate, climate protection measures, and support for individual and societal climate resilience. In
addition to serving as a climate protection strategy, it is also a strategy for promoting sustainable climate adaptation across entire social systems.
